Neck pain & headaches

Your neck is doing someone else's job.

Your head weighs 10 to 12 pounds. When the upper back, shoulders, and deep neck muscles stop doing their share, the neck tends to take over, and pain, stiffness, and headaches often follow. We find what stopped doing its job and correct it.

What you feel

The symptoms

  • Stiffness turning your head
  • Aching at the base of the skull or between the shoulder blades
  • Headaches that start in the neck
  • Pain, tingling, or numbness into the arm or hand
  • Neck pain that keeps coming back
What’s usually driving it

The hidden causes

  • Forward head posture
  • Stiff upper back and ribs
  • Shoulder-blade weakness
  • Nerve restrictions from the neck into the arm
  • Old injuries the body has been compensating for
How we treat it

Our plan

  • Full evaluation from head to toe, not just the neck
  • Hands-on joint, muscle, and nerve treatment
  • Deep neck and upper-back strengthening
  • Posture and workstation changes that stick
  • A home plan to keep results

The principleThe neck is often the victim. Correct the parts around it and the neck can settle down.

The chain

Above and below neck pain & headaches.

Your body moves as one connected chain, from the ankle and foot to the cervical spine. Red marks the link that usually ends up working too hard; blue marks the links we most often find stiff.

See a doctor first if you have:

  • Neck pain after a fall, car accident, or other injury
  • A sudden, severe headache unlike any before
  • Fever with a stiff neck
  • Weakness, numbness, or clumsiness getting worse in the arms or legs
  • Trouble walking, balance problems, or changes in bladder, or bowel control

For a medical emergency, call 911.

Can neck pain cause headaches?

Yes. Many headaches start with tension and restrictions in the upper neck. When those are corrected, headaches often improve.

Why does my arm tingle when my neck hurts?

Nerves to the arm start in the neck. Restrictions there, or along the nerve's path, can cause tingling or numbness. Worsening weakness or numbness should be checked by a physician.

Will I need to keep coming back?

Not forever. Once the chain is corrected and your body knows what normal feels like, most people simply come in for occasional check-ups and tune-ups to catch small problems early.
